As the total downloads from the App Store tops 50 billion, there is one game that stands out as one of the most downloaded free mobile games ever and that’s Temple Run. The positioning in Apple’s official top 25 list signifies the many lucrative merchandising opportunities for the property.
Last month Apple revealed the 25 most downloaded paid and free apps of all time. High on the list, Imangi Studios’ Temple Run™ occupied the #2 spot for the most downloaded free mobile gaming app.
2013 has been a landmark year for the team at Imangi Studios. In January Temple Run™ became the subject of a mainstream licensing programme in the UK with a plan to deliver branded merchandise to fans starting A/W 2013. This coincided with the release of Temple Run 2™ which swiftly became the fastest downloaded mobile game in history with an incredible achievement of over 50 million users on board within 2 weeks. Then in March, the game was named “Favorite App” by Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards.
